I am many things. I am a child of God and of two perfectly imperfect parents. I am a good-enough wife. I am a childless mother. I am a supportive sister, aunt, cousin and friend. I am a social worker by profession and by nature. I am an honorable colleague and a good neighbor. Above all, I am a “lover” of sorts..I was created to love. And I take my purpose seriously!
I grew up a poor little Black girl in the post-segregated rural South without an abundance of resources but with a substantial amount of hope and imagination. I’ve always been different and I’m so glad I chose to embrace it. I had just enough gumption and drive to think outside the box and to get far enough away from my circumstances to meet my true authentic self. And I love her dearly!
I have not always treated her kindly or shown her respect. I allowed others to treat her the same way; I did not always protect her. I haven’t always appreciated her uniqueness or her prowess. I haven’t always trusted her instinct or her ability to survive and create. I am not proud of some of the places shame took us. But that’s life, and living, and growing…I wouldn’t be who I am today without the journey.
We are who we are because of where we’ve been and who we met along the way.
I created this blog to simply write…and to inspire…and to show love! Stick around and get some…
